Jika demokrasi adalah judul terindah bagi suatu bangsa
maka bangsaku hendak menggunakannya pula
mereka mengorbankan jiwa dengan sukarela atau dengan pesan
mereka sama-sama berdarah dan bahkan hilang oleh dahaga tanah
aliran sari-sari makanan kebebasan tak pernah sampai
tersebar ke seluruh tubuh
berhenti mereka di antara lembaran-lembaran kertas berstempel

Maaf jika hidupku adalah demokrasi
nampaknya ia tak punya judul lagi
kadang saya merasa sangat berharga dan ingin hidup
seperti jiwa Chairil Anwar
namun kadang saya menemukan ketidakbernilaian
yang mendorongku untuk mengakhiri hidup
